McPheeters was a physician in Livonia, Washington County, Ind. During the Civil War he served as a surgeon with the 23rd Indiana Infantry Regiment. He married Mary J. Holmes, and after her death, Mary F. Roney. McPheeters retired to Hardinsburg, Washington County, Ind. in 1881 and farmed and took part in community affairs.
